NAVWAR Launches IL6-Ready Software Development Pipeline
The Naval Information Warfare Systems Command has launched a cloud-enabled DevSecOps pipeline designed to handle secret-level information and applications.
Known as the Overmatch Software Armory, the pipeline serves as an Impact Level 6 digital environment that automatically integrates security in every stage of the software development process, the Navy said.
“Previously, if we wanted to have our own classified secret software pipeline, we would have had to build an on premise solution and host it in a secure location onsite,” said David Jenkins, deputy for project development at the Naval Information Warfare Center Pacific Command and Control Systems Division.
IL6 storage systems may store and process up to secret-level information, whose unauthorized disclosure could cause serious harm to national security, according to the Defense Information Systems Agency’s Cloud Computing Security Requirement Guide.
The digital environment has been approved to support the transformation of the Risk Management Framework, which NAVWAR said is a rigid risk-based cybersecurity approach to enterprise-level authorization of information technology systems and services.
NAVWAR previously relied on a version of the Overmatch Software Armory that was only designed for IL4 and IL5, which cover controlled unclassified information and national security systems.
The IL6 version includes the same tools and automation features, including cybersecurity technologies that integrate security early into the development process.
According to NAVWAR, the IL4/IL5 version currently serves more than 1,300 users and 77 projects, while the new Overmatch Software Armory has just recently been added to the Naval Digital Marketplace.
The marketplace is managed by the Program Executive Office for Digital and Enterprise Services and consolidates the Navy’s acquisition of cloud-related products and services.
