Navy Names New Chief Information Officer

The Department of the Navy has named Jane Rathbun as chief information officer and special assistant for information management.

Rathbun’s appointment came after she took on the DON principal deputy CIO position in January and accepted the acting CIO role in March.

In her new roles, Rathbun will serve as the principal staff assistant to Navy Secretary Carlos Del Toro on information technology, digital modernization, cybersecurity and data management, Navy .mil reported.

Rathbun said she will also work with the chief of naval operations and commandant to achieve expected operational and business outcomes under the Navigation Plan and Force Design 2030.

According to her LinkedIn profile, her CIO work also involves improving the agency’s IT portfolio, executing the DON’s Information Superiority Vision and ensuring the alignment of cyber and IT goals with the Navy secretary’s priorities. Rathbun’s key focus areas include cyber readiness, zero trust architecture and cloud migration.

Rathbun also previously served in the Navy Department as deputy assistant secretary for information warfare and enterprise services and chief technology officer responsible for supporting the development of a framework design concept to help the U.S. Navy and Marine Corps achieve their digital modernization goals and reorganize the Program Executive Office Enterprise Information Systems.
