Navy Official Urges US Cyber Command Plan Integration With Combatant Commands

Navy Rear Adm. Dennis Velez, plans and policy director for U.S. Cyber Command, underscored the importance of plan integration for his organization and the various combatant commands during the Partnership Strategy and Security Cooperation Conference.

Velez said during the event held from Aug. 8 to 9 in Annapolis, Maryland, that the commands working closely will together find the solutions and resources to achieve their objectives.

Australia’s Brig. Gen. Robert Watson, currently assigned to CYBERCOM, shared in the conference the importance of innovative approaches and integrated deterrence to maintain a competitive edge. New concepts on how to be “better together in cybersecurity” were generated by the conference, he added.

Representatives from various units, including six of the Department of Defense’s COCOMS, as well as delegates from the Department of State and the Defense Security Cooperation Agency attended the conference. The event enabled direct discussions with the cyber operators of CYBERCOM’s Cyber Operations-Integrated Planning Elements.

The conference’s attendance more than doubled to 170 participants from the 80 attendees in 2022, DVIDS reported.
