New Federal Workforce Recruitment Playbook Outlines Hiring Priorities

The Office of Personnel Management has issued the Workforce of the Future Playbook to synchronize the Biden administration’s workforce policies, enabling federal agencies’ revitalization of recruitment processes and retention of talented government employees. The new guidelines expand on the agency’s Strategic Plan defining President Joe Biden’s vision for the federal government’s workforce.

The guidebook revolves around the OPM’s vision in three action areas for an inclusive, agile and engaged workforce equipped with the necessary skills. According to Kiran Ahuja, the agency director, the playbook provides federal agencies with the resources and strategies for hiring qualified talents and planning their future workforce, the OPM said Friday.

The guidebook presents 12 priority areas to address, including strategic workforce planning and recruitment, skills-based hiring, artificial intelligence integration and career pathing and employee development.

The OPM announced that it will conduct webinars and training and roll out technical support programs to implement the guidebook’s strategies and priorities. It has also created the Workforce of the Future webpage for periodic updates.

In addition, the OPM disclosed in a recent memo that it is completing a competency model for hiring AI personnel.
