OMB Creates New FedRAMP Board With Expanded Membership

The Office of Management and Budget has created a new governing board of the Federal Risk and Authorization Management Program to replace the Joint Authorization Board and added more representatives from across government sectors.

FedRAMP, operating as one of the General Service Administration’s technology transformation services, seeks to leverage cloud services easily and safely to help U.S. government agencies fulfill their missions. Eric Mill, GSA cloud strategy executive director, sees the new board as bringing in a rich resource of expertise “to create a robust authorization ecosystem,” the GSA said Tuesday.

The old JAB’s three-person membership, composed of representatives from the chief information offices of the Department of Defense, Department of Homeland Security and GSA, was expanded to seven in the new FedRAMP Board created under the fiscal year 2023 National Defense Authorization Act.

The members added to the new board were CIO representatives from the Department of Veterans Affairs, Department of the Air Force and Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation, along with the Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency’s senior technical director for cybersecurity.

Among the members of the new board are Venice Goodwine, Air Force CIO and 2024 Wash100 winner, and David McKeown, DOD deputy CIO for cybersecurity and also a Wash100 awardee and speaker at a past Potomac Officers Club event.

Deputy Federal Chief Information Officer Drew Myklegard said representatives from various government agencies were purposively included in the board to harness their expertise in cybersecurity and information technology modernization to address the government’s rapid adoption of cyber and cloud technologies.
