OMB to Release Guidance on AI Use in Federal Agencies

Arati Prabhakar, the director of the Office of Science and Technology Policy, said the Office of Management and Budget is working on a new guidance on the use of artificial intelligence.

The OMB will issue the guidance following an AI-focused executive order, which is expected to be introduced on Monday during the Safe, Secure and Trustworthy Artificial Intelligence event hosted by President Joe Biden, FedScoop reported.

Speaking at a Washington Post event, Prabhakar said implementing the proper use of AI provides an opportunity for the United States to strengthen its AI leadership.

In a separate event in September, the OSTP director revealed that the upcoming EO will provide a mechanism that would enable the executive branch to use AI to mitigate risks and harness the power of the technology.

Unlike the EO, the OMB guidance will focus on the implementation of AI in federal agencies and how agency officials implement tech policies.
