OPM CIO: Cloud-Native Cybersecurity Platform Helps Improve Agency’s Cyber Posture

Guy Cavallo, chief information officer at the Office of Personnel Management, said that Microsoft’s Azure cloud-native cybersecurity platform helped the agency protect sensitive data it handles from malicious actors.

In a recent interview, Cavallo said  the agency opted for cloud-based cybersecurity because it offered the perfect place to store a significant amount of data with the growing use of artificial intelligence.

OPM Chief Information Security Officer James Saunders listed several advantages to using the platform, including a more comprehensive view of its security posture and the ability to easily scale its security infrastructure, FedScoop reported.

Cavallo and Saunders played a vital role in the office’s transition to Microsoft Azure and made the Microsoft solution the center of OPM’s security apparatus.

OPM has been turning to the cloud to solve the challenges it faces. In March 2023, Calvello advised his counterparts at other agencies to not wait for a budget allocation for cloud migration, recommending that it is better to work with chief financial officers on coming up with funds to ensure a successful transition.
