Palantir to Deploy DaaS Platform for Air Force, Space Force

Palantir Technologies has been awarded a firm-fixed-price contract to deploy its data-as-a-service platform for the Space and Missile Systems Center’s Cross-Mission Ground and Communications Enterprise.

The $32.5 million contract converges SMC/ECX’s Space Command and Control program, the Air Force’s Project Brown Heron and a NORAD-NORTHCOM mission area, Palantir said Monday.

As part of the work on Space C2, Palantir will deploy its DaaS platform at both the National Space Defense Center and the Combined Space Operations Center. DaaS is a data centralization strategy designed to facilitate trend analysis and enrich data for a broad range of applications.

Col. Jennifer Krolikowski, senior material leader for Space C2 at SMC, said Palantir’s service will allow Space Force leaders to better leverage data for decision-making.

“Palantir’s technology and framework has truly accelerated our ability to remove data stovepipes throughout the community and create actionable knowledge,” Krolikowski added.

Project Brown Heron, an Air Force electronic surveillance program, will use Palantir’s offering to provide service leaders a readiness analytics platform. Palantir added that its platform can integrate disparate data sources from across the service.

In its own press release, the Air Force said readiness information is critical for service-wide coronavirus analysis and decision-making efforts.

The DaaS platform is also expected to allow the NORAD-NORTHCOM Command and Control Center to centralize data from across functional and geographic domains.

According to the Air Force, the new capability will support NORAD-NORTHCOM’s plans for joint all-domain command and control, which is the Department of Defense’s concept of connecting sensors from all of the military services into a single network.
