PEO EIS to Accelerate IPPS-A Modernization With Agile Software Best Practices
The Program Executive Office Enterprise Information Systems is accelerating its Integrated Personnel and Pay System — Army software modernization efforts using the industry’s Agile best practices to equip soldiers with new capabilities in smaller increments.
In a breakout session during the recent AFCEA Belvior Industry Days, IPPS-A leaders discussed various strategies the PEO is using to accelerate modernization initiatives, including automated testing, modular contracting and adaptive software architectures.
Commenting on modular contracting, Lt. Col. Ryan Martin, product manager for IPPS-A Increment II, said that the government needs to go beyond strict contractual requirements to fully take advantage of Agile software development, Army .mil reported.
During the same event, IPPS-A Project Manager Col. Matthew Paul said that the organization is embracing automated testing to ensure that “if we fail, we fail early, and we fail small.”
The U.S. Army introduced IPPS-A in July 2021 as an application enabling service members to access personnel records without using a Common Access Card.
