Presidential Advisory Council to Tackle AI Impact During Live Public Meeting

The President’s Council of Advisors on Science and Technology has set in motion the Biden administration’s efforts to pursue the beneficial use of artificial intelligence while addressing and minimizing its risks through the launch of a working group on generative AI that will conduct multi-sectoral consultations prior to making recommendations to the president on how best to address AI-related issues. The public consultation will begin on May 19 with a public session on generative AI to include two expert panel discussions concerning AI and its effect on science and society, the White House said.

PCAST has encouraged the public to submit by email their input on AI challenges and opportunities that should be considered by the government along with actionable ideas in no more than 5 pages and without including proprietary or inappropriate information. The Office of Science Technology and Policy previously issued a request for information on the use of automated tools for worker surveillance and monitoring while the National Telecommunications and Information Administration has previously issued a request for comment on the AI accountability policy.
