Sandia, DDN Partner to Enhance Infinia High-Performance Computing Solution

DDN announced that it has teamed up with Sandia National Laboratories for four years to ensure that the Infinia data storage solution can accommodate future Department of Energy and Government Lab ecosystem and application requirements.

Infinia is designed to support intensive workloads such as generative artificial intelligence and data at scale on-premises and in the cloud, DDN said.

Sven Oehme, the company’s chief technology officer, said Infinia can help future-proof organizations’ storage and facilitate infrastructure functionality.

According to DDN, another goal behind the effort was to ensure that Infinia meets traditional simulation and modeling high-performance computing applications.

The company said the collaboration has improved the data solution’s performance and quality of service.

Meanwhile, Matthew Curry, a principal computer scientist at Sandia, said his organization is integrating Infinia’s data management capabilities into an internal HPC environment. Sandia is continuing to work with DDN and the National Nuclear Security Administration on the process, he added.

Officials from the Energy Department’s NNSA and other laboratories provided feedback during Infinia’s development.

The partnership is part of NNSA’s Advanced Simulation and Computing program, for which Sandia is assessing emerging technologies to determine whether they are suited for large-scale production.
