SDA Planning to Procure Prototype Satellites for Missile Detection and Tracking

The Space Development Agency has posted a draft solicitation for purchasing and deploying eight prototype satellites for the Fire-control On Orbit-support-to-the-war Fighter program of the Proliferated Warfighter Space Architecture, formerly known as the National Defense Space Architecture.

Each FOO Fighter spacecraft will carry electro-optical/infrared sensors to demonstrate detection, warning, tracking and advanced defense capability against hypersonic missile systems and other missile threats.

The SDA may acquire more satellites and sensor payloads under other transaction authorities planned to be awarded to more than one vendor. Responses to the notice should be sent via email by Aug. 7, according to the notice posted on SAM .gov.

SDA said the draft solicitation provides the industry the opportunity to review and offer feedback prior to the posting of the final solicitation.

All the F2 satellites will be deployed in a single launch expected to take place no later than the second quarter of the fiscal year 2026.
