Social Security Administration Appoints Tim Amerson as Deputy CISO
Tim Amerson has taken on the role of deputy chief information security officer at the Social Security Administration. He started working at the agency on Aug. 15 after a nine-year career at the Department of Veterans Affairs where he served as director of infrastructure operations cybersecurity management, FedScoop reported. Amerson joined SSA’s Office of Information Security, which oversees IT security policies and procedures. As deputy CISO, he will help shape, manage and implement SSA’s IT security program.
According to his LinkedIn profile, he also held other director positions at the VA focused on national data center operations and logistics and infrastructure technology architecture. Prior to joining the agency, Amerson served in the Army National Guard as deputy of the Defense Cyberspace Operations-Element and as information operations and network officer. He holds a bachelor’s degree in computer and information sciences from Excelsior University.
SSA also appointed Sid Sinha as chief technology officer in charge of executing tech strategy and innovation. Sinha was a director at the Internal Revenue Service responsible for leading the American Rescue Plan Act-driven modernization programs before moving to SSA. He also worked as a director of enterprise architecture at IRS, during which he helped the agency establish and strengthen its technology standards, architecture and metrics in application and tools portfolio, and security and privacy requirements. Prior to IRS, he spent two years at the U.S. Mint as deputy chief information officer and deputy associate director. Sinha holds a master of business administration degree from Indiana University’s Kelley School of Business.
