Social Security Administration to Migrate Online Accounts to Login.gov
The Social Security Administration said that users who created personal accounts through its online portal before Sept. 18, 2021, must transition to the government’s Login. gov platform to be able to access digital services.
The migration, which affects individuals with “my Social Security” accounts, is part of the SSA’s ongoing efforts to simplify user experience and ensure compliance with federal authentication standards, Nextgov/FCW reported.
Previously, users with old credentials needed a username and a password to log in directly on the SSA website. However, the next time they log in, the agency said, the users will be prompted to switch to Login .gov.
To avoid the potential retirement of accounts, the SSA recommends existing users proactively link their accounts with the new website before September.
The agency also emphasized that the change aims to simplify sign-in processes and ensure secure and convenient access to online services across various agencies.
Over 5 million SSA users have already linked their accounts with Login .gov.
