Space Force to Expand Unit Integration Model Implementation

The U.S. Space Force is planning to expand a pilot program designed to test a new unit integration model that puts operations, sustainment and acquisition under a single command.

Implementation of the Integrated Mission Delta concept is ongoing within two Space Force mission areas, namely positioning, navigation and timing and electronic warfare.

Citing the efficiency improvements of PNT and EW teams resulting from the IMD model, Lt. Gen. David Miller, commander of Space Operations -Command, said he has made the recommendation that other mission areas also adopt the same construct in the pilot’s next phase, Defense News reported.

He did not elaborate on his recommendation to Chief of Space Operations Gen. Chance Saltzman but said more details will be disclosed in the coming weeks.

According to Miller, his proposal is based on the lessons learned from the model’s initial implementation, acknowledging that not all mission areas will benefit from the IMD concept, including combat forces.
