T-Mobile to Provide 5G Connectivity to VA Caribbean Healthcare Systems Locations

T-Mobile has received a 10-year agreement from the Veterans Affairs Caribbean Healthcare System to provide wireless connectivity to health care professionals in Puerto Rico and the U.S. Virgin Islands.

T-Mobile will provide wireless lines and mobile internet hotspots in 15 locations across the two U.S. territories, ensuring that health care professionals can serve veterans seamlessly through low-latency 5G connectivity. T-Mobile’s 5G solutions enable seamless connection between providers and patients and their families, in-building coverage for critical and emergency services and advanced telehealth solutions and remote medical consultations.

5G solutions may also enable next-generation health care technologies like augmented and virtual reality for advanced patient monitoring, T-Mobile said Tuesday.

The 5G contract is one of several contracts the Department of Veterans Affairs awarded for IT improvements.

In January, the VA awarded Science Applications International Corp. a spot on the $60.7 million Transformation Twenty-One Total Technology Next Generation Two contract. The T4NG2 contract comprises 11 technical function areas, including technical support, strategy planning and operation maintenance, for the VA and other federal agencies.

In November, GovCIO secured a three-year, $35 million VA task order for advanced technology solutions and digital services support for the agency’s Life Insurance Policy Administration System Phase II program.
