HUD Names Vinay Singh as Chief AI Officer
The Department of Housing and Urban Development has named its senior leader to manage artificial intelligence use.
HUD Chief Financial Officer Vinay Singh will act as the department’s chief artificial intelligence officer, a role required by a Biden-Harris administration executive order, FedScoop reported.
An HUD spokesperson said Singh’s responsibilities have yet to be determined by the agency’s AI Governance Board.
President Joe Biden’s EO 14110 requires some federal agencies to appoint a new officer overseeing AI 60 days after the Office of Management and Budget issued a guidance. The chief AI officer’s responsibilities include vice chairing the department’s AI governance board, coordinating AI adoption and managing risks.
The Biden-Harris administration has been doubling its efforts to keep pace with the rapid advancement of AI. In October, it issued an executive order guiding organizations on the best use and ways to minimize the risks associated with AI. Biden’s move received support from several organizations, including the General Services Administration.
