US Army Adding New Smartphone App to Soldiers’ Toolkit for Real-Time Information
Top U.S. Army officials have unveiled a new smartphone app called My Army Post enabling troops to access and share real-time information in and around their military stations.
The Army Future Command’s Army Software Factory came up with the app’s beta version “in just weeks,” Col. Vito Errico, the software factory’s director, told DefenseScoop in a media roundtable at the annual AUSA conference.
During the event held from Oct. 9 to 11 in Washington D.C., Army officials also hosted a session to gather military spouses’ recommendations on features that they want to be included in the app, DefenseScoop reported.
Army Chief of Staff Gen. Randy George said he and Army Secretary Christine Wormuth ordered the app’s development to ensure that the service can communicate with its soldiers and their families.
He added that the Army’s efforts to help troops and their families have a better quality of life include ensuring that a new installation welcomes visitors and enables access to its resources and offerings.
A downloadable My Army Post version 1.0.12, which was updated Thursday, is already accessible.
