Nokia Acquires Fenix Group, Expands Defense Portfolio

Nokia has finalized its acquisition of Fenix Group, a firm that specializes in tactical communications for the defense sector.

The acquisition is expected to enhance Nokia’s defense sector portfolio by integrating Fenix’s advanced broadband tactical communications products, such as the Banshee and Talon mobile ad hoc network radios, offering a more comprehensive suite of 3rd Generation Partnership Project-based solutions, Nokia said.

The deal was first announced in December 2023 and was then reviewed and approved by the Committee on Foreign Investment in the United States.

Mike Loomis, president of Nokia’s Federal Solutions unit and a 4×24 member, highlighted Fenix’s expertise in tactical communications and said the integration of its products will allow the companies to deliver “high-performance, secure, and reliable solutions” to defense clients.

Fenix Group CEO Dave Peterson echoed Loomis’ sentiment, expressing the company’s commitment to creating greater value for customers and securing military communications through the acquisition.

In October 2021, Nokia and Fenix were selected by the Defense Innovation Unit for a program to provide private wireless communications aimed at enhancing dual-use technology capabilities for military operations.
