OMB Preparing New Memo on AI Management Guidelines
The Office of Management and Budget is drafting a new memo to provide guidance on about 10 requirements in government agencies’ use and management of artificial intelligence, parts of which were disclosed to Federal News Network.
Details of the draft include the appointment of a new chief AI officer, the development of a publicly available AI strategy, the convening of an AI governance board and the establishment of guardrails on generative AI use.
According to an anonymous OMB source, the memo pulls “together content of existing executive orders as they relate to AI in an executable way,” Federal News Network reported.
OMB began working on the memo in May as part of broader government efforts focused on AI, Federal News Network reported.
The draft memo is expected to be published for public comment in the Federal Register in October.
