Radha Plumb Takes Oath as Chief Digital and AI Officer

Radha Plumb, a past Potomac Officers Club speaker, has taken her oath of office as the new chief digital and artificial intelligence officer.

Before taking on the role, she served as deputy undersecretary of defense for acquisition and sustainment. She replaces Craig Martell, who departed the Department of Defense earlier in April.

As CDAO, Plumb plans to boost collaboration with U.S. allies and military, industry and academia partners to accelerate the delivery of digital and artificial intelligence technological advancements to warfighters, Defense .gov reported.

She also held other roles in the DOD, including chief of staff to the deputy secretary of defense and acting deputy director of administration and management.

Prior to joining the DOD, Plumb led research efforts for trust and safety at Google. She also served as global head of policy analysis at Facebook and as a senior economist at the think tank RAND.

Her public sector career included time spent as deputy chief of staff to the deputy secretary of energy and as the director of personnel and readiness at the National Security Council.

According to the DOD, Plumb’s government and industry experience will enable CDAO to speed up the adoption of data, analytics and AI across the department.
