Red Cat to Install AI Platform on Next-Gen Drone

Red Cat Holdings has announced that it will integrate Teledyne FLIR’s Prism artificial intelligence platform as part of the U.S. Army’s Short Range Reconnaissance Tranche 2 program of record.

The Prism platform is a repository of software libraries that enable autonomous object detection, classification and tracking in real-time regardless of daylight conditions. Prism will be added to Red Cat’s next-generation drone, being developed under the SRR Tranche 2 program.

The SRR program aims to provide soldiers with small drones that provide situational awareness capabilities, bespoke ISR, battlefield management and other support mechanisms.

Teal Drones, a Red Cat subsidiary, will perform the Prism integration, Red Cat said.

Other companies involved in the SRR Tranche 2 program have also announced recent successes.

Earlier in January, drone manufacturer Skydio announced that it would proceed with the delivery of the X10D sUAS under SRR. According to Skydio, the X10D has a feature that allows it to autonomously avoid obstacles in zero-light conditions. The X10D also comes with an infrared sensor that can capture high-quality images and radiometric readings.

The Army selected Teal Drones to develop a prototype sUAS under SRR Tranche 2 in March 2022.
