Sandia National Lab Official Advocates for Government Data in AI Development
Jennifer Gaudioso, director of Sandia National Laboratory’s Center for Computing Research, emphasized the significance of government datasets in training artificial intelligence systems.
During a Joint Economic Committee hearing on AI’s economic impact, Guardioso underscored the potential of AI to propel scientific breakthroughs and technological advancements while enhancing national competitiveness, FedScoop reported.
Gaudioso argued that leveraging government datasets, beyond internet-based sources used in systems such as ChatGPT, would significantly improve AI capabilities. She explained that using scientific datasets, for instance, could revolutionize manufacturing and drug discovery.
Gaudioso’s testimony comes amid continuous White House efforts promoting AI policies and ongoing Congressional debates on regulating and fostering AI development.
Gaudioso also cited the Department of Energy’s national labs’ longstanding experience in high-performance computing and their ongoing AI research in national security and science as proof of their expertise in AI development.
