Senate Homeland Security Committee Approves Cloud Modernization Bill

The Senate Committee on Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs approved on Wednesday the Multi-Cloud Innovation and Advancement Act of 2023.

Sen. Jacky Rosen, D-Nev., said that if enacted, the law will empower federal agencies to make informed decisions on innovative cloud technologies while reducing costs, increasing operational efficiency and improving cybersecurity.

Introduced by Rosen with Sen. Steve Daines, R-Mont., the bill aims to accelerate and modernize the adoption of cloud technology in federal agencies, FedScoop reported.

The proposed legislation comes as various government components are embracing cloud computing. John Sherman, chief information officer at the Department of Defense, revealed in March that the agency has launched the Joint Warfighter Cloud Capability modernization initiative to ensure everyone within the DOD network can access the software they need.

At the U.S. Army, the DOD has introduced cArmy 2.0, the latest version of its cloud services infrastructure. The new cloud platform streamlines access to secure cloud applications, improving the overall delivery using automation.
