SOC, BWXT-JV Secures $30B Maintenance, Operations Contract for Texas Nuclear Assembly Facility

The Department of Energy’s National Nuclear Security Administration has tapped a BWXT-led joint venture to manage and operate the Pantex Plant located outside Amarillo, Texas.

SOC, a Day & Zimmerman company, is among the contractors that form PanTeXas Deterrence, the JV that received a contract with an initial term of five years and is worth approximately $30 billion. Under the deal, the PanTeXas will support the nuclear power plant’s day-to-day operations, including maintaining the safety, security and effectiveness of the United States’ nuclear weapons stockpile.

The joint venture is also composed of Fluor and The Texas A&M University System, SOC said.

SOC President Doug Magee, a 4×24 member, said the new contract continues the company’s long partnership with the DOE, supporting the agency’s mission of ensuring security and safeguarding the nation’s vital infrastructure.

The contract comes after the NNSA decided in 2023 to issue two separate contracts for the management and operation of the facility and the Y-12 National Security Complex, which was previously handled by a joint venture between Amentum and Fluor.
