Space Force Enters First Commit Phase Cycle for SPAFORGEN Implementation

The U.S. Space Force has begun the first synchronized deployment phase, also known as the Commit phase, of its Space Force Generation Model to optimize its readiness for potential conflicts with major powers.

SPAFORGEN is a three-phase rotational model designed to maintain high levels of combat readiness while allowing Space Force personnel to conduct daily operations, the Space Force said.

Unlike traditional deployment models focused on physical troop movement, SPACEFORGEN recognizes that space forces primarily function in fixed locations, according to the service branch.

The model, initiated in October 2022, consists of three phases: Prepare, Ready and Commit. During the Prepare phase, guardians undergo training and professional development.

The Ready phase focuses on advanced training exercises and validations. Finally, in the Commit phase, guardians culminate their training, ready to be deployed to support combatant commanders.

Gen. Chance Saltzman, chief of space operations, a 2024 Wash100 awardee and a past Potomac Officers Club event speaker, underscored the importance of aligning the force’s structure with its function, ensuring that the Space Force is prepared for the demands of the great power competition.
