Angela M. Sheffield is Director of the DoD Digital and Artificial Intelligence Portfolio, which delivers platform, data, and artificial intelligence services to the DoD Chief Digital and Artificial Intelligence (AI) office to accelerate DoD adoption of data, analytics, and AI to enable decision advantage in all operations conditions and all warfighting domains.
Throughout her career, Sheffield has held numerous positions of increasing impact leading teams focused on modeling and simulation, data, and advanced analytics, with particular emphasis on command and control, intelligence, and nuclear nonproliferation and treaty verification.
Sheffield joined SAIC in 2024 from Raft, where she led growth and delivery of Raft’s portfolio of data mesh and AI offerings for C4ISR applications. Previously, Sheffield served as Senior Program Manager for AI at the Office of Defense Nuclear Nonproliferation Research and Development,
National Nuclear Security Administration, Department of Energy (DOE). In that role, she led a portfolio of projects performed by the DOE National Laboratories, academia, and industry to advance the science of AI and develop novel capabilities to reduce nuclear threats.
Sheffield began her career as an active-duty Air Force officer with assignments in directed energy weapons research and development with the Air Force Research Laboratory’s 711th Human Performance Wing and technical intelligence at the National Air and Space Intelligence Center.
Sheffield later joined DOE’s Pacific Northwest National Laboratory, where she led major initiatives to develop advanced data and AI techniques to counter terrorism and weapons of mass destruction (WMD). The approaches she pioneered are now central to U.S. strategy to counter nuclear and WMD threats and laid the foundation for national and defense AI.
Sheffield has a B.S. in Economics from the U.S. Air Force Academy and an M.S. in Operations Research from Kansas State University. She is a war college graduate with an M.S. in National Security and Resource Strategy from the National Defense University Eisenhower School. Sheffield serves as the first-ever subject matter expert to the Secretary of State’s International Security Advisory Board.
