Brian C. Lein, MD is the Defense Health Agency (DHA) Assistant Director, Healthcare Administration. Dr. Lein provides leadership in the administration and management of health care delivery across all DoD hospitals and clinics, and the sustainment of the medical readiness of the armed forces
and the readiness of the medical force within a unified Military Health System.
As Assistant Director, Health Care Administration, he assists the DHA director in the planning, direction and management of health care facilities, implementing policy, procedures and direction that affect health care delivery and administration, as well as provide cross-functional support to the markets and managing the TRICARE Health Plan.
Prior to joining DHA, Dr Lein served 30 years in the U.S. Army as a physician and leader, retiring as a major general and the Chief of the Army Medical Corps.
He has commanded at multiple levels, including the Army Medical Department Center and School, U.S. Army Medical Research and Materiel Command, and Landstuhl Regional Medical Center. Other leadership roles include the Deputy Army Surgeon General, Deputy Commanding General for Operations, U.S. Army Medical Command, theater surgeon in Afghanistan (ISAF), and command surgeon for US Army Forces Command CFLCC/Third Army, and 4th Infantry Division.
He most recently served as a volunteer with the National Coronavirus Task Force as Serology Testing lead. Prior to this position, he worked at Hospital Corporation of America as Division Vice President for Graduate Medical Education.
Dr. Lein received his Bachelor of Science Degree from The United States Military Academy and his M.D. from Temple University School of Medicine, is board certified in General Surgery and a Fellow, American College of Surgeons. He received his Master’s in Strategic Studies from The U.S. Army War College.
