Colonel Joseph “Joe” O’Callaghan, is from Chicago, Illinois, and was Commissioned as a Field Artillery Officer from Christian Brothers University, Memphis, Tennessee in 1994. His current assignment is as the XVIII Airborne Corps Chief of Fires overseeing the Corps Joint Fires and Targeting Enterprise and is the Corps subject matter expert on Algorithmic Warfare.
He has led both in both Airborne howitzer and Rocket Artillery units in combat and operational deployments and has served as a rated Special Operations Terminal Attack Controller. He participated in Stabilization Forces 4 and 5 Operation Joint Guard (Bosnia), Task Force Warrior (Hungary), multiple deployments to Operation Iraqi Freedom and Inherent Resolve (Iraq), and Operation Enduring Freedom (Afghanistan) and recent contingency operations in the European Theater. He has served in both Conventional and Special Operations units.
Colonel O’Callaghan commanded the 3rd Battalion, 321st Field Artillery (HIMARS) and has served as a Fire Support Coordinator at Battalion, Division, Corps, Combined Joint Force Land Component, and Joint Task Force levels. His recent assignments include Combined Joint Task Force – Operation Inherent Resolve Fire Support Coordinator, Baghdad Iraq and Operation European Assure, Deter, and Reinforce as TF Dragon Fire Support Coordinator, Wiesbaden, DE.
Colonel O’Callaghan has a B.S in History from Christian Brothers University, a M.S. in Strategic Studies from the Army War College, holds a language rating in Serbo-Croatian, and is a graduate of multiple Army and Joint schools. His awards and decorations include the Master Parachutist Badge, Army Space Operations Badge, Bronze Star with Oak leaf, Distinguished Service Medal with Oak leaves, and multiple other service awards.
