Deputy Assistant Secretary of Defense for International & Industry Engagement

Mr. Travis Langster currently serves as the Deputy Assistant Secretary of Defense for International & Industry Engagement at the U.S. Department of Defense. In addition to integrating international agreements in the fields of research, development, acquisition and logistics, as well as foreign military sales, his responsibilities include the Defense Industrial Base engagement strategy development and coordination, developing and executing strategies to modernize the defense industrial ecosystem, implementing flexible acquisition mechanisms, and representing the Assistant Secretary of Defense for Industrial Base Policy on matters concerning international programs. He also directs and monitors the implementation of defense policies on international armaments cooperation within the Department.

Prior to assuming his current role, in April 2022 Mr. Langster was sworn in as Principal Director of Space and Missile Defense Policy, in the Office of Under Secretary of Defense Space Policy, where he ushered in the Department’s first ever Commercial Space Integration Strategy. He also managed DoD’s role in transitioning Space Traffic Management to the Commerce Department and facilitated the advancement of multi-lateral international space cooperation. Mr. Langster has also participated in many international engagements on behalf of U.S. Government trade missions and direct engagements across several countries including Japan, Southeast Asia, Europe, Australia, Canada, and India.

Mr. Langster’s private industry career spans two decades within the aerospace & defense sector where he served as Vice President & General Manager of COMSPOC, responsible for profit & loss, strategy, and partnerships. His early career includes positions in engineering and mission operations across multiple sectors of defense and intelligence.

Mr. Langster received a Bachelor of Science degree in Aeronautical and Astronautical engineering from Purdue University and was inducted in 2021 as a Purdue Alumni Outstanding Aerospace Engineer. He is an active supporter of community organizations, foundations, youth mentoring and STEM awareness.
