Dr. Chris Caggiano

Dr. Chris Caggiano is the Principal Medical Officer for Amazon Web Services (AWS) Mission Innovation Team. He is a computer scientist, board-certified emergency physician and clinical informatician with a diverse skillset combining 30 years of clinical expertise with 18 years of healthcare technology. Prior to AWS, Chris was the Director of ambulatory electronic health record systems and VP of Medical Affairs for McKesson where he co-founded the McKesson Provider Technologies professional services group and served as CMIO for large US Integrated Delivery Networks. At AWS, he develops proof-of-concept cloud solutions with Health and Human Services Operating Divisions, independent software developers, and systems integrators. Chris serves with the AWS Disaster Response Action Team, the AWS Health Equity Community of Practice, and leads the Physicians of Amazon group. He is also a member of the US Information Technology Disaster Resource Center. Prior to and overlapping his computer science work, Dr. Caggiano was an assistant professor of emergency medicine at The University of Cincinnati and a practicing attending emergency physician at St. Elizabeth Medical Center. With a background in cloud computing, computer science, clinical informatics, electronic medical records, patient care, and artificial intelligence, Dr. Caggiano is uniquely qualified to lead complex healthcare technology initiatives that bridge the gap between clinical and technical domains. He is known for his ability to develop innovative solutions to improve and personalize patient care, reduce provider and patient burden, promote interoperability and data sharing, reduce healthcare costs, and streamline workflows. His passion for healthcare technology is matched only by his commitment to patient safety and quality of care. Chris has earned degrees in computer science and cellular biology from Purdue University and in medicine from The George Washington University School of Medicine and Health Sciences. He is a Fellow of the American College of Emergency Physicians and Diplomat of the American College of Preventive Medicine in Clinical Informatics.
