Dr. Duane Williams is the Senior Vice President of US Government at Digital Science where he supports a range of data science efforts throughout the U.S. Departments of Defense, Department of Energy, Department of Health and Human Services and the National Science Foundation. Duane earned his doctorate in theoretical chemistry from the Quantum Theory Project at University of Florida where he studied computational refinement of nuclear magnetic resonance imaging. His current work focuses on the use of novel data science approaches to inform government policy, specifically, improving strategic research investment decisions through the use of novel data sets, tools and analytical approaches that provide insight into the emerging R&D landscape. Duane and his team have won several Director's Awards for their analytical support at the National Institutes of Health, including the 2020 NIAID Director's Merit Award for their support helping with strategic planning for the Office of Data Science and Emerging Technologies. Prior to joining Digital Science, he served as Sr Scientific Analyst and Project Manager for the Intellectual Property & Science division of Thomson Reuters. There he designed and led custom analyses and software development to facilitate data-driven objective assessments of research programs.
