Dr. Tugba Erpek

Dr. Tugba Erpek is a Research Associate Professor in the Intelligent Systems Division of the Virginia Tech National Security Institute and a co-founder of Nexcepta, Inc., which is an R&D company located in Gaithersburg, Maryland. She received her Ph.D. degree in Electrical and Computer Engineering from Virginia Tech. Prior to Virginia Tech and Nexcepta, she was a Lead Scientist and Network Communications Technical Area Lead at the Intelligent Automation, a BlueHalo Company where she developed deep learning algorithms to improve the performance, situational awareness and security of next-generation communications systems. Earlier, she worked at the Shared Spectrum Company as a Senior Communications Systems Engineer where she designed and developed dynamic spectrum sharing algorithms to improve the spectral efficiency. Her R&D work covers wireless communications, 5G and beyond, dynamic spectrum sharing, cognitive radio, machine learning, adversarial machine learning and network protocol design and implementation. She has published extensively in these areas. She has been serving as a TPC member and reviewer for major IEEE conferences and journals.
