Dr. Gregory Avicola

Dr. Gregory Avicola joined DARPA in May 2019 as a program manager in the Tactical Technology Office. Areas of expertise include remote sensing (focus on maritime applications), undersea systems, and naval warfare. He is particularly interested in naval logistics, developing capabilities to exploit undersea mobility, improving both manned and unmanned undersea systems, and enabling undersea autonomous systems.
Prior to joining DARPA, Avicola was principal professional staff at The Johns Hopkins University Applied Physics Laboratory, where he held numerous roles. He provided technical oversight on multiple projects, as well as a number of operational studies for the U.S. Navy and other government customers. He also ran a portfolio of advanced technology anti-submarine warfare programs, supporting DARPA and the Advanced Undersea Technology Office.
Avicola holds a Doctor of Philosophy in physical ocean science and engineering and a Master of Science in physics, from the University of Delaware, as well as a Bachelor of Science in physics from the University of California, San Diego.
