U.S. Army Research Laboratory’s Science of Intelligent Systems Division

Dr. John M. Fossaceca is the Chief for the U.S. Army Research Laboratory’s Science of Intelligent Systems Division (SISD), where he supports research programs in machine learning and artificial intelligence related to autonomous systems maneuver and situational understanding. SISD is operationalizing the science AI-enabled systems for autonomous maneuver that can rapidly learn, adapt, reason, and act in multi-domain operations.
Prior to joining ARL in 2016, Dr. Fossaceca worked in industry for several DoD and Telecommunications companies in numerous leadership roles including Engineering Vice President and COO at Comtech Mobile Datacom, leading the modernization of the US Army’s satellite-based Blue Force tracking system.
He also served as Principal Investigator and Vice President of Engineering for several Small Business Innovation Research (SBIR) programs for the US Navy at Ultra Electronics, 3eTI leading the development of secure wireless communications and industrial controls based intrusion dec
Earlier in his career Dr. Fossaceca was an Engineering Director at AT&T/Lucent/Bell Labs for Next Generation Telecommunications Systems.
Dr. Fossaceca has conducted research and development in adaptive signal processing, machine learning in data constrained environments, and network intrusion detection and is co-inventor on six patents related to wireless communications and signal detection. Dr. Fossaceca holds bachelor’s and master’s degrees in Electrical Engineering and Ph.D. in Systems Engineering.
