Joshua Skule
Executive Assistant Director for Intelligence
Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI)
Mr. Skule currently serves as the FBI’s Executive Assistant Director for Intelligence and leads the organization’s Intelligence Branch. Appointed to this position in June 2016, Mr. Skule serves as the strategic leader of the FBI’s intelligence program, with centralized authority, responsibility, and oversight for all of the FBI’s intelligence work.
Mr. Skule began his career as a Special Agent with the FBI in 1998 in the Chicago Field Office, where he investigated violent crimes and public corruption.
In 2008, he transferred to FBI Headquarters and shifted his focus to counterterrorism. As a Unit Chief in International Terrorism Operations Section I, Mr. Skule was responsible for counterterrorism investigations within the United States.
In 2009, he was named Assistant Section Chief in International Terrorism Operations Section II. In that position, he managed extraterritorial counterterrorism investigations involving crimes committed against U.S. persons or interests overseas.
Mr. Skule was promoted to Assistant Special Agent in Charge of the Washington Field Office’s Criminal Division in 2011. In that position, he was responsible for several programs, including organized crime, gangs, and violent crime, as well as cyber investigations.
He returned to International Terrorism Operations Section I in 2012 as Section Chief. In that position, Mr. Skule was responsible for all FBI counterterrorism operations within the United States.
In 2013, he was selected to serve as Deputy Assistant Director within the Counterterrorism Division. In that position, Mr. Skule managed all communication exploitation and logistical operations in support of the FBI’s counterterrorism program.
In 2014, Mr. Skule was appointed to the position of Special Agent in Charge of the Washington Field Office’s Intelligence Division, where he oversaw all aspects of the office’s intelligence work.
Mr. Skule became Assistant Director of the Directorate of Intelligence in January 2016. In that position, he was responsible for the FBI’s oversight and support for the field intelligence program, excellence in language services, improved finished intelligence production, refined confidential human source validation, development of the intelligence workforce, and cross-programmatic strategic analysis.
Mr. Skule graduated from the Naval Academy with a bachelor’s degree in political science. He went on to serve for six years in the United States Marine Corps. Mr. Skule is a 2018 recipient of the Presidential Rank Award. He is married with four children.
