Marine Corps Tactical Systems Support Activity (MCTSSA)

Captain Lucas Vancina is the 5G Technical Lead at the Marine Corps Tactical Systems Support Activity
(MCTSSA) in Camp Pendleton, California. A native of Illinois, he commissioned as a Marine 2nd
Lieutenant in August of 2017 after completing U.S. Marine Corps Officer Candidates School. After
graduating from The Basic Officers’ Course in Quantico, Virginia, he was assigned the specialty of
Communications Officer and completed the Basic Communications Officers’ Course in Twentynine
Palms, California. His previous Marine Corps assignments include Communications Platoon Commander
at 9th Communication Battalion, S-6 Staff officer at I Expeditionary Operations Training Group, Future
Operations Officer at 9th Communication Battalion, and Graduate Student at the Naval Postgraduate
School Department of Computer Science.
Captain Vancina holds a B.S degree in Applied Science from Maranatha Baptist University in Watertown,
Wisconsin and an M.S. in Computer Science from the Naval Postgraduate School in Monterey California
where he received an Outstanding Thesis Award for his research on Open Radio Access Network E2
Service Models. He is also a graduate of the Expeditionary Warfare School Blended Seminar program.
Captain Vancina is currently leading the 5G engineering team at MCTSSA in establishing an Advanced
Wireless Networking Lab that will provide technical assessments of wireless and cellular networking
technologies and unique wireless communications solutions for the Marine Corps.
