Martin (Marty) Whelan is Northrop Grumman’s Corporate Lead Executive in the Greater Los Angeles area, representing all company sectors and all business activities within those sectors. With his depth of knowledge of Air and Space Programs, he serves as the company’s primary liaison for high level customer interface with the Air Force and other U.S. Government organizations for coordination, integration and synchronization of corporate and sector customer engagements, internal cross-sector and external strategy development, and outreach.
Mr. Whelan joined Northrop Grumman in 2016 following a career in the Air Force, where he served in a broad range of leadership and management positions across the spectrum of operations, plans, policy, strategy and requirements. He most recently served as the Director for Future Operations, HQ U.S. Air Force, in the Pentagon. During his Air Force career, he commanded at the squadron and wing levels and has performed the missile warning, space control and missile operations missions and has served in key space policy and strategy development positions.
Mr. Whelan is a graduate of Parks College of St. Louis University where he earned a bachelor’s degree in Aerospace Engineering, Air Force Undergraduate Space Training, the Army’s Command and General Staff College, and the National Defense University with a Master of Science degree in National Resource Strategy. He also completed courses in executive business and strategic planning at the Harvard Kennedy School of Government and the University of North Carolina Kenan-Flagler Business School.
