Mike Galbraith was recruited to help reestablish the U.S. Department of the Navy Chief Information Officer (DoN CIO) Office and support the DoN CIO in serving as the primary advisor to the Secretary of Navy for information technology, cybersecurity, communications, spectrum, and position, navigation and timing. Mr. Galbraith was sworn in as Chief Digital Innovation Officer (CDIO) of the Department of Navy (DoN) Oct 2019 and has been part of the DoN CIO leadership team since the office was re-established.
As the CDIO, he provided strategic leadership for the entire Department of the Navy (DoN) information technology policy and budget decisions for the $12.5B IT investment Portfolio within the DoN. He provides Department-wide oversight, policy guidance and digital expertise to drive reform and transformation across the IT landscape resulting in agile IT practices and delivery of cloud-enabled IT capabilities. He also leads the Defense Business Systems reform, modernization and legacy decommissioning on behalf of the Under Secretary of the Navy. He directed the successful realization of a Digital Workplace across the Department, including the adoption of a temporary collaboration capability (CVR) during COVID-19 to the transition to an enduring DoD365 cloud solution (a.k.a. Flank Speed). He led 5G and “Next G” efforts across the DoN, including the delivery of a series of successful pilot to introduce Smart Warehouse automation and additional technology capabilities at the tactical edge. He led the DoN’s “Cattle Drive” efforts to reduce duplicative IT systems, capabilities and data repositories, resulting in $150 million in savings for the Department.
As a C-Suite executive with over 30 years of global IT leadership experience, Mike planned and led enterprise wide transformation initiatives for large, complex global companies. He has extensive experience developing multi-year strategies and execution roadmaps, managing transformational SAP ERP programs, leading large-scale legacy system and network modernization to cloud-based and SaaS-based offerings and delivering technology innovations including Big Data & Advanced Analytics, AI/ML & RPA and Digital Factory & IoT/Industry 4.0. Initiatives and leading the IT & technology integrations of over 100 mergers, acquisitions and divestures.
Prior to his role at the Department of Navy, Mike served as CIO & Vice President of Technology, Strategy & Solutions at ThoughtFocus, part of the innovation portfolio of the Blackstone Group. Mike was recruited to transform the overall strategy and vision for the technology and service offerings of ThoughtFocus, as well as to stand-up the company’s Enterprise Solutions and Digital Advisory Practice to oversee client engagements
Mike also served as divisional CIO and VP, IT & Digital Solutions at TE Connectivity, a large global, industrial manufacturer of connectors and sensors. Mike pioneered TE’s digital strategy and innovations across all business segments globally. He led all aspects of IT delivery, deployment and support for Digital Engineering, Digital Factory and Manufacturing automation and Digital Customer Experience. In addition, he co-led the global deployment of SAP and spearheaded enterprise data management by introducing a 40TB enterprise-wide data warehouse, and business intelligence and analytics capabilities. Mike was also responsible for the IT integration of over 80 acquisitions ranging from $10M-$3B in revenue into the company’s shared services and systems.
Mike holds Bachelor of Arts degrees in both Computer Science and Business Administration from Elizabethtown College in Pennsylvania and Executive MBA certifications in Executive Leadership and Corporate Strategy from the Wharton School, University of Pennsylvania.
