Mr. Michael (Mike) Smith holds a BS and MS degree in Nuclear Engineering from the University of Tennessee. He worked at Oak Ridge National Lab for 10 years where he served as a radiological nuclear engineer and project manager supporting research activities for defense, civilian, and industry, nuclear initiatives. His primary focus as a researcher was in support of nuclear space power and propulsion systems and natural space radiation environments. He has provided direct analytical support for multiple spaceflight missions including Mars Science Laboratory, Mars 2020, Dragonfly, and Voyager along with supporting many other spaceflight and terrestrial nuclear design efforts for NASA, DOE, and DoD. He now leads the OECIF Nuclear Portfolio and oversees multiple projects including fission and radioisotope power systems across multiple domains.
