Michele Iversen

Director of Risk Assessment and Operational Integration

Ms. Michele Iversen is currently serving as the Director of Risk Assessment and Operational Integration for the Department of Defense. Ms. Iversen’s portfolio currently includes cybersecurity operational awareness and coordination, specialized risk and vulnerability assessments, security engineering, Supply Chain Risk Management, the Committee on Foreign Investment in the United States, and oversight of DOD CIO’s Exception to Policy and Mission Partner Connection processes.

Ms. Iversen has held senior IT and Cybersecurity positions in the Department of Defense, the Intelligence Community (IC), and the Federal civilian sector. Most recently, Ms. Iversen served with the Central Intelligence Agency’s Cybersecurity Division. She led initiatives to improve and enhance SOC capabilities to more rapidly detect and respond to cyber security threats.

Ms. Iversen served as the CIO for the Privacy and Civil Liberties Oversight Board (PCLOB) from 2015 to 2017 where she was responsible for the Agency’s classified and unclassified technology systems and for providing technical expertise for the Board’s oversight and advisory functions. Ms. Iversen designed and implemented all IT services to include a secure telework capability, worked with GSA’s 18F organization to transition public facing services to a secure cloud platform, and planned and executed transition of all IT resources during two office relocations. Ms. Iversen also developed the Agency’s plan in response to the President’s Executive Order (EO) 13800, Strengthening the Cybersecurity of Federal Networks and Critical Infrastructure Ms. Iversen also served as the Agency’s Senior Agency Official for Privacy (SAOP)

Earlier in her career, Ms. Iversen served with the National Security Agency where her positions included Chief of System Security Engineering, DOD Cyber Defense Architect, Branch Chief in Tailored Access Operations, and as an Information Systems Security Engineer joint IC Programs. Ms. Iversen is a retired Army Signal Corps officer who helped establish the Joint Task Force for Computer Network Defense (JTF-CND), served as the Chief of the Army’s Computer Emergency Response Team in Southwest Asia, and as a Deputy Operations Officer for the Cyber National Mission Force within US Cyber Command.
