Dr. Nicholas S. Kovach is an accomplished computer engineer with the U.S. Air Force
Materiel Command (AFMC), currently serving as the Integration Lead Architect. With a
distinguished career spanning two decades in defense technology and aerospace
systems, Dr. Kovach has established himself as a leading authority in the areas of
digital transformation, Model-Based Systems Engineering, and cybersecurity. His work
focuses on advancing the development and integration of cutting-edge systems to
optimize mission effectiveness and enhance operational resilience across the U.S. Air
Force and its defense partners.
In his current role, Dr. Kovach leads the strategic integration of operational and
emerging system capabilities, providing critical decision-making support to align
resources with mission objectives. As the Directorate Chief Technology Officer in AFRL
his leadership has been instrumental in shaping and executing complex, multi-
disciplinary projects, including the successful launch of a cloud-based research
collaboration platform and the leadership of a $500 million digital transformation
program for research. He also plays a key role in the integration of digital transformation
activities across the Air Force and larger DoD enterprise IT initiatives.
Dr. Kovach's expertise spans a wide range of technical domains, including
cybersecurity, systems engineering, and defense architecture. His contributions to the
cybersecurity testing of advanced weapon platforms have earned him recognition as a
leader in operational cyber defense. Additionally, his efforts in advancing open
architectures and digital engineering principles have led to significant improvements in
the Air Force's approach to technology development and deployment.
