Special Operations Command Awards AI Integration Contract to Yurts Technologies
The U.S. Special Operations Command has awarded Yurts Technologies a contract worth up to $16 million for the integration of large language models to enhance the command’s decision-making process.
Aimed at streamlining Socom’s communication and analytical capabilities, the contract will also involve the Silicon Valley-based startup Unstructured Technologies as Yurts’ partner. The contract’s combined efforts demonstrate a shared commitment to the strategic adoption of artificial intelligence within the Department of Defense’s organization, Yurts Technologies said.
According to Ben Van Roo, Yurts co-founder and CEO, the command often leads in DOD’s technology experimentation and adoption. It has acted quickly to harness the “groundswell of interest from the warfighter in leveraging AI for operational advantage,” he said.
The supply of software solutions including large language models to enhance decision-making is also covered in a $463 million contract that Socom awarded to Palantir in June.
Earlier, the command also chose Quantum Computing Inc. subsidiary Qi Solutions for the development of quantum technology applications to support its special operations and activities worldwide.
