SpiderOak Space SVP Says Investments Will Enhance OrbitSecure Software

John Moberly, SpiderOak’s senior vice president for space and a 4×24 member, said his organization will use $16.4 million in Series C funds to enhance its OrbitSecure software and develop products to support upcoming space missions.

In a Global Military Communications Magazine interview republished on the SpiderOak website, Moberly explained that OrbitSecure is being validated in operational space and that product lines are being made as the offering is being customized for specific applications.

OrbitSecure is a decentralized software platform that works to securely manage data in space. Moberly noted that the offering is built on zero trust and distributed ledger technology and features identity management and role-based access control capabilities.

Moberly said partners such as Lockheed Martin and RTX selected SpiderOak because they sought a solution to meet zero trust requirements for their space systems. He the challenges posed by space require a decentralized system such as OrbitSecure, SpiderOak said.

According to Moberly, SpiderOak’s partnership with RTX‘s research and development organization centers around building zero-trust systems for proliferated low-Earth orbit satellite communications. He said OrbitSecure will be combined with BBN’s secure cloud solution to maintain mesh network resilience in distributed and disrupted environments.
