Defense Information Systems Agency to Create New Intelligence Unit
Defense Information Systems Agency Director Lt. Gen. Robert Skinner, past POC speaker and 2023 Wash100 winner, said the agency will soon create a new intelligence unit.
Speaking at the annual Army IT Day conference of AFCEA’s Northern Virginia chapter on Thursday, Skinner said the unit, which he announced in May 2023, will help the combat support agency align with other agencies and combatant commands.
A spokesperson said the J2 unit will help improve global situational awareness by collating intelligence reports from the Department of Defense and other intelligence community members. J2 will be the agency’s first intelligence unit, DefenseScoop reported.
The federal government has been working to improve information sharing and processing. In April 2023, the National Security Agency concluded that the intelligence community needs to continue improving its working relationship with the commercial sector to accelerate sensitive data collection and transmission.
DISA is also contributing to improving intelligence gathering and processing. It issued a sources-sought notice in January 2024 seeking a contractor to develop software and provide sustainment support for the Joint Interoperability of Tactical Command and Control Systems.
