Carahsoft Executive: AI, ML Will Play Important Part in Modernizing Education

Artificial intelligence is expected to modernize the educational landscape.

Tim Boltz, education market program executive at Carahsoft and a 4×24 member, said schools need to embrace AI and machine learning to adapt to the changing needs of students.

To ensure the success of AI in classrooms, education officials must follow guiding principles for responsible and trustworthy AI use, including human-centricity, transparency, and privacy and security, Boltz wrote in an article published on Carahsoft .com.

However, not all experts are supporters of integrating AI into classrooms. At the recent annual EdTech Talks Summit hosted by Carahsoft, Anand Rao, professor of communications chair of the Department of Communications and Digital Studies at the University of Mary Washington in Virginia, discussed why the decision to use AI in the classroom is not a great idea, especially for vulnerable students.

The Department of Education has yet to fully adopt the emerging technology within the agency and in U.S. classrooms. However, it decided to invest in generative AI in December 2023 to help with its Federal Student Aid program, assisting with inquiries on financial aid and federal assistance.
