Program of record
US Army Brigade Crafts Data Analysis Tools
A brigade in the U.S. Army’s 4th Infantry Division has developed new programs of record to analyze data.
Division lead Maj. Gen. David Doyle said the 4th Combat Aviation Brigade created budget, maintenance and training tools that generate clear insights to support commanders’ decision-making, Defense One reported Monday.
The unit is currently validating the tools before sharing them with similar units.
Doyle is working to spread the brigade’s approach, with his division recently holding the first in a series of data literacy workshops. Roughly 200 Army personnel attended the event, which was led by Schuyler Moore, the U.S. Central Command’s chief technology officer.
Moore, a past Potomac Officers Club event speaker, described data literacy as “tricky” due to significant differences in skill and knowledge requirements across organizations. She wrote in an email to Defense One that CENTCOM regularly reviews its data training program and tools to keep pace with its needs.
According to Moore, the Department of Defense needs to invest in tools to expand data analytics and visualization accessibility for those without technical backgrounds.
