White House Council Offers Recommendations on AI Integration to Advance Scientific Discovery
A new report from the White House highlights five recommendations to ensure that the United States remains a leader in scientific discovery by harnessing the opportunities presented by artificial intelligence.
In the President’s Council of Advisors on Science and Technology’s “Supercharging Research: Harnessing Artificial Intelligence to Meet Global Challenges” report, science and technology experts called on President Joe Biden to encourage the integration of AI-enabled solutions into scientific workflows to help in carrying out high-quality research, among other initiatives integrating AI in scientific research.
The report is part of an initiative supporting the Biden administration’s goal of ensuring safe, secure and trustworthy AI development, the White House said.
The recommendations come as the executive branch continues its work on promoting the technology’s secure development. In February, the Technology Modernization Fund announced it was seeking project proposals to help federal agencies adopt AI for a wide range of applications.
It is also pursuing collaborations with international partners to advance AI capabilities. It signed an agreement with the government of Japan in early April that will see the University of Washington and the University of Tsukuba work on AI uses in a variety of fields, including climate change, health care and robotics.
