Zscaler’s Ken Urquhart Recommends That Businesses Look Into 5G

Ken Urquhart, Zscaler’s global vice president of 5G strategy and a 4×24 member, has called on companies to explore how 5G technology can enhance their products and services.

In a keynote at the end of a recent Cloud & 5G Live virtual conference, he said the business landscape could shift now that the technology has reached 25 percent market penetration, Mobile Magazine reported Tuesday.

Urquhart explained that more value will be generated faster because of the rise of 5G. Businesses are poised to make significant gains without losing anything if they begin adopting the technology now, he added.

According to Urquhart, 5G is seeing increasing demand in portable robotics, asset tracking, drones, predictive maintenance and other use cases.

Waiting for 6G may not be necessary, he said, given the developments in 5G in achieving ultra-low latency and large-scale device scalability on private systems.

Urquhart went on to say that expertise is needed to roll out 5G, emphasizing that the technology has a “steep learning curve” because of the need for internet protocol, telecommunications and internet of things knowledge.
