NSF Official Sean Jones Joins Argonne as Deputy Laboratory Director
Sean Jones has joined the Department of Energy’s Argonne National Laboratory as deputy laboratory director for science and technology. Beginning on Oct. 9, he will assume responsibilities as chief research officer, senior science strategist and adviser.
In a press release, Jones said he would support improvements to Argonne’s facilities and research programs and build a scientific workforce that will make future scientific breakthroughs. He added that he would contribute to the laboratory’s mission of “accelerating science for the benefit of all Americans.”
Jones currently serves as assistant director of the National Science Foundation‘s mathematical and physical sciences directorate. He manages a $1.86 billion portfolio that covers five science divisions, domestic and international research facilities and various research programs and centers.
According to his LinkedIn profile, Jones has been part of the NSF for more than 14 years. Before joining the foundation, he held leadership roles at various universities and companies, including Norfolk State University, Lucent Technologies and Applied Plasmonics, Argonne said Wednesday.
